SURELY AN ELECTRIC CAR CAN’T OUTRUN A PORSCHE GT3

…Meet the new $70,000 sports salon that Tesla has released. Its statistics are incredible on paper. 0-60 comes in at 3.4 secs (based on my own timings during a test drive in Minneapolis) and that is where the comparisons stop, simply because you can’t compare it to anything else. There is no emissions, there is no BHP, there is no fuel consumption and there is no engine problems. Therefore I feel like Jeremy Clarkson trying to compare an elephant and a dolphin in a 50m swimming race. Its simply doesn’t compute.

So far, I sound like a car sales person. But this blog goes much deeper than that.

Watching Elon Musk trying to explain where this car comes from, must’ve been like listening to Henry Ford justify why the combustion engine is better than horses! This is the same guy that is also flying people to space with his spaceX project.

The Tesla brand then, seeks to destroy the conventional way of thinking about driving and this got me thinking, how can we influence our students to think not just within the box, but to take the box and chuck it in the bin. In coming up with this idea, these guys were thinking on a completely different level, if only we could capture the creativity and influence technology just as Elon Musk has.

I for one will always seek to teach my students that everything is possible, regardless of what people tell you!
